RANT!!!!

All right, it's time to rant, and it's about one of my favorite video games series...Advance Wars!

Advance Wars takes place in a slightly more futuristic era.  It's a strategy war game, kind of like chess on a more major scale.  There are many more different kinds of units, different terrain affects your fighting capabilities, and vice versa.  You are one of the COs (short for Co-operatives, or commanders, or whatever), and you have special abilities and powers that affect your units.

Hawke for example, gives + 10% attack power to all units, a very balanced character.  But each character also has something called a "Co-power".  You have a meter that fills up whenever you deal damage or take damage.  Once it gets to certain levels, you can do different levels of Co-powers, and the different levels depends on the game.  Using Hawke again as an example, he has the Co-power "Black Wave".  He basically summons a wave of dark energy that heals every one of his units a little, and damages everyone else's units a little.  His second level, "Black Storm", is essentially the same thing, except it heals a little more and deals a little more.

Okay...so I've covered the details of the game, but what about the rant?  My rant is not actually about the game itself, but about annoying people who view it.

As mentioned before, this is a WAR game, where units fight and die.  What people find annoying about Advance Wars is actually a unique fact I like about it.  It takes place in an actually quite cheery manner.  The units look like toy figures, the sky is sunny and there's lots of color, and cheery upbeat music plays in the background.  Not to mention that half of the forementoned Cos are CHILDREN.

This is where Advance Wars has gotten a lot of critisizm.  Many think it wrong that they take war in such a cheery and fun manner.  And this...is where my rant begins...because those complainers are MORONS!!!!

Fact is, video games generally involve unnecessary violence.  Pokemon involves pitting creatures against each other, Legend of Zelda involves killing monsters, and vice-versa.  But it's just a game!   Fact is, we know it's fake.  Video game worlds work quite different from ours, and viewpoint has a lot to do with it.  Yes, Advance Wars involves children commanding armies and silly war...but video games were NOT meant to be history lessons!  They are simply meant for fun!

(Seriously, I thought these were toys at first.  Do they LOOK like real people to you???)

War is a terrible thing, but that's what I loved about this game!  It's silliness and cheery attitude made me love the game much more than I would have otherwise!

Their latest game, Days of Ruin, was meant to bring the seriousness back in...and you know what?  I thought the previous games were MUCH better!  It lost it's previous charm that the other games have.  It's childishness didn't make it a game designed to make fun of war...it gave the series it's meaning!  It's charm!  It's uniqueness!

So if someone ever reads this who is against it, SHUT UP.  Games are meant to be fun, not
history lessons!  Now excuse me, I'm gonna go play some Dual Strike.
